The Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Group TWO (SNMCMG2) will visit the city of Algiers, Algeria October 12 -14, as part of their annual program of activities.
NATO and Algerian Navy forces will practice together, improving their interoperability through active participation in some military exercises.
The force consists of flagship TCG Sokullu Mehmet Paşa (A577) support and training ship of Turkey, and mine hunters Aydin-class TCG Akçakoca (M268) of Turkey, Frankenthal-class FGS Weilheim (M1059) of Germany and Segura-class SPS Sella (M32) of Spain.
It is commanded by Captain Ramazan Kesgin of Turkish Naval Forces Command (TNFC). The SNMCMG2 main task is to defend the maritime passages from the threat of mines.
