The Department of State of the United States has approved a potential sale of three Northrop Grumman RQ-4 Block 30 Global Hawk unmanned aircraft systems to Japan.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) notified the United States Congress of the possible foreign military sale on November 19.

The potential US $1.2 billion contract includes three RQ-4 Block 30 Global Hawk aircraft for use by the Japan Air Self Defense Force (JASDF), and associated three enhanced integrated sensor suites and 16 navigation systems

Japan Ministry of Defence also is looking to procure Boeing V-22 Osprey and Northrop Grumman E-2D Hawkeye aircraft.
