SAAB Aeronautics and UMS Aero Group AG are forming a joint venture under the name UMS Skeldar AG. UMS Skeldar AG was established with the aim to strengthen Saab Aeronautics’s offerings in the tactical unmanned aircraft system market. SAAB Aeronautics will transfer all assets relating to the Skeldar unmanned helicopter to UMS Skeldar AG company.
The new company will be responsible for development, manufacture, testing, training and maintenance of the air vehicles plus all associated systems such as ground stations, communications links and data terminals.
The UMS Skeldar AG product portfolio consists of four air vehicles in the 20-250 kg weight range. Alongside the Skeldar unmanned helicopter are two fixed-wing unmanned systems and another rotary-wing unmanned system.
UMS Skeldar AG’s operations will involve approximately 55 employees. The head office will be located in Möhlin, Switzerland with an office also established in Linköping, Sweden.
