The Spanish firm Indra Sistemas has been tasked to develop all the electronics of future 8×8 combat armoured vehicle intended for the Spanish Army (Ejército de Tierra). The company together with General Dynamics European Land Systems-Santa Bárbara Sistemas and SAPA Operaciones has been contracted by Spanish Ministry of Defence armament procurement arm DGAM (Dirección General de Adquisiciones de Armamento y Material) to design, develops and built prototypes to meet the requirements of Spanish VCR (Vehículo de Combate sobre Ruedas) program. The VCR will be based on Piranha 5 combat vehicle of GDELS-Mowag. Up to production 500 vehicles will be later purchased.
As part of EUR89.2 million contract awarded in December 2015 to the temporary consortium UTE VCE 8×8, Indra Sistemas will develop and integrate the vehicle’s electronics including fire control system, combat management system, situational awareness system, and communications management system.
