German Rheinmetall Defence announced a EUR390 million contract aimed to modernize the Skyguard ground based air defence system fielded by the air defence corps of an international customer.

Delivery will take place between 2017 and 2020.

Besides a new search radar, the Skyguard systems will be outfitted with the company’s XTAR 3D target tracking radar, a latest-generation friend-foe identification system as well as cutting-edge electronic warfare components. The missile launcher will be upgraded with a new electronic pod, which will enhance the system’s missile capability.

Furthermore, logistical support will also be improved.
