The Zambia Army is considering to modernize its T-59 main battle tanks and to purchase multi-mission light and medium armoured vehicles as part of a measure to improve its armour capability.

The information was revealed by Zambia Army Brigadier General Jack Singyangwe, Chief of Policy, Doctrine and Strategic Branch, during International Armoured Vehicles 2016 event held 25-28 January by Defense IQ in Twickenham Stadium, London, United Kingdom.

Along T-59 battle tanks, the land force of the African nation is currently equipped with BRDM-2 4×4 vehicles, and WMZ 551 6×6 wheeled armoured vehicles of Chinese origin.
