A field artillery unit of Turkish Land Forces Command (TLFC) is currently shelling YPG/PYD forces in Syria with T-155 K/M Firtina self-propelled tracked artillery howitzers. YPD/PYD is considered as a terrorist organization by Turkish authorities.
Ankara is reportedly mulling a ground offensive in Syria along with troops of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). KSA is making plans to deploy several fighter jets (potentially Typhoon and/or F-15s) and ground support equipment and personnel to Turkey’s İncirlik Air Base in Adana province. Incirlik Air Base is currently hosting F-15E Strike Eagle aircraft of the U.S. Air Force (USAF) in support of Operation Inherent Resolve and counter-ISIL missions in Iraq and Syria.
The 47t T-155 Firtina artillery system which is a Turkish modified variant of K9 Thunder system from South Korea’s Samsung Techwin company.
The 155mm/52 cal system was locally produced by Makina ve Kimya Endüstrisi Kurumu (MKEK) and Aselsan Elektronik Sanayi Ve Ticaret. The tracked combat systems is assisted by the 50t Poyraz ammunition armored tracked resupply vehicle.
