The Capability Acquisition and Sustainment organization of the Australian Department of Defense has awarded the Spanish shipbuilder Navantia a contract worth $640 million to build and deliver two replenishment ships for the Royal Australian Navy.

In addition, an initial $250 million, five-year sustainment contract also signed with Navantia will be undertaken in Australia. The ships to be suplied to Australia will be basd0ed on the company’s BAC (Buque de Aprovisionamiento de Combate) design.
