BAE Systems has awarded a contract to Rolls-Royce Power Systems to manufacture diesel generators for the first three Type 26 GCS anti-submarine warfare ships for the Royal Navy.

Each surface combat ship will require four of the diesel generators based on 20-cylinder MTU Series 4000 engine. Each generator set will deliver approximately 3 MW of generated power.

The United Kingdom committed to buy eight of the anti-submarine warfare ship to progressively replace the Type 23 frigates.
