The FS Forbin (D620) air warfare frigate of the Marine Nationale (French Navy) on 9 May launched a MBDA Exocet MM40 Block 3 surface-to-surface anti-ship missile. The ship, together with FS Chevalier Paul (D621) unit integrate the two Horizon combat frigates that were comissioned in 2008 and 2009 respectively from the local shipbuilder DCNS.

Both were built at the company’s Lorient shipyard. They are also armed with OTO Melara Super Rapid 76mm gun systems, MBDA Aster 15/30 surface-to-air missiles, F2 20mm guns and EuroTorp MU90 lightweight torpedoes. The Exocet MM40 Block 3 missile is the ship’s main armament for the anti-surface warfare role (ASuW). Each of the ships is equipped with two quad missile launchers.
