Rheinmetall Air Defence announced it has won a modernization order from the procurement organisation ARMASUISSE of Switzerland to upgrade through 2019, the fire control units and guns of the 35mm Oerlikon Skyguard air defence system fielded by the Swiss Air Force.
The contract also includes an overhaul of the associated command and control systems in the operations centre as well as additional spare parts. These measures will extend its service life until at least 2025. The Swiss-based firm RUAG Aviation will play a role in the modernization program.
The Swiss Air Force also is equipped with Stinger and Rapier air defence missile systems.
