The French Ministry of Defence’s armament procurement agency, the DGA (Direction Générale de l’Armement) announced June 15 it has commissioned the ninth Airbus Defence and Space A400M Atlas military airlifter aimed for the French Air Force (Armée de l’Air) on June 8.

The aircraft with serial number MSN33 is the first French aircraft incorporating air-to-air refueling capability and auto-protection suite, among other new features.

France is expected to induct other five similar aircraft in current year, with two being new built aircraft and three existing units to be retrofitted to standard identical to MSN33 aircraft.

France is due to receive 50 A400M Atlas aircraft.
