Egypt has requested an US foreign military sale of Boeing UGM-84L Sub-Harpoon Block II anti-ship and land attack missiles for the HDW Class 209 attack submarines of the Egyptian Navy. Germany’s ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) is building four HDW Class 209/1400 submarines for Egypt.

The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) delivered the required certification notifying US congress of this possible sale on May 11. The estimated cost worth USD143 million comprise twenty encapsulated missiles and two encapsulated certification training vehicles, as well as containers, spare and repair parts, support and test equipment, publications and technical documentation, personnel training and training equipment.
