The US State Department has made a determination approving a possible foreign military sale to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for GDLS M1A2S Saudi Abrams main battle tanks and BAE Systems M88Al/A2 HERCULES (Heavy Equipment Recovery Combat Utility Lift Evacuation System) armored recovery vehicles.

The certification for the package worth an estimated cost USD1.15 billion was delivered by the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) to the US Congress on 8 August.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has requested 153 M1Al/A2 tank structures for conversion to 133 M1A2S Saudi Abrams configured tanks and 20 battle damage replacements for their existing fleet; 153 12.7mm M2 machine guns; 266 7.62mm M240 machine guns; 153 M250 smoke grenade launchers; 20 M88A1/A2 HERCULES vehicle structures for conversion to M88Al/A2 HERCULES vehicles; 169 AN/VAS-5 driver vision enhancers; 133 AN/PVS-7B night vision devices; 4,256 M865 training rounds; and 2,394 M831A1 training rounds.

Also included are overhaul, conversion and refurbishment services; special tools and test equipment; gunnery training systems; technical support; shipment; binoculars, camouflage nets; spare and repair parts; communications equipment; personnel training and training equipment; tools and test equipment
