The United Kingdom’s Defence Equipment and Support organization is considering modernizing up to 227 Challenger 2 main battle tanks of the British Army. The upgrade project is officially known as the Armour (MBT) 2025 program.

The requirement has attracted the attention of several companies including a consortium led by BAE Systems and General Dynamics UK, a team formed by Lockheed Martin UK and Elbit Systems UK, Rheinmetall Defence, RUAG Defence, Krauss-Maffei Wegmann, and a partnership of CMI Defence and Ricardo UK.

The possible upgrade program will potentially include improving the vehicle’s protection, mobility, firepower and situational awareness.
