The French aerospace manufacturer Dassault Aviation and its partners Thales and Safran have been selected to deliver 28 single-seat and 8 twin-seat aircraft of Rafale design to the Indian Air Force (IAF).

The official signing ceremony for the acquisition of 36 Rafale fighter jets was held on 23 September in New Delhi, India.

The aircraft will be equipped with Thales RBE2 AESA radar and Spectra electronic warfare system.

24 Rafale fighters were ordered by Egypt in February 2015, and 24 were ordered by Qatar in May 2015. The type is also in service with the French Air Force and French Navy.
