The British firm BAE Systems has revealed that a contract is being finalised with the United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defence for the construction of fourth and fifth new River-class offshore patrol vessels for the Royal Navy.

The shipbuilding operation of BAE Systems is currently building three additional River-class patrol ships known as Batch 2, comprising HMS Forth, HMS Medway and HMS Trent.

BAE Systems Maritime-Naval Ship (formerly VT Shipbuilding) has previously delivered four Batch 1 ships comprising HMS Tyne, HMS Severn, HMS Mersey and HMS Clyde.
