The French shipbuilder DCNS will unveil the SMX 3.0 conventional attack submarine at the EURONAVAL 2016 naval and maritime international event to be held in Le Bourget, France 17-21 October. The new submarine can be armed with torpedoes, anti-ship missile, vertically-launched air defence missile, and land-attack cruise missile. It can also deploy combat divers.
DCNS has previously delivered conventional attack submarines to Chile and Malaysia. The company is under contract to supply conventional submarines to Australia, Brazil and India, and nuclear-powered attack submarines to France. DCNS assisted Brazil in the hull design of Brazilian Navy future nuclear-powered attack submarine, the SNBR Álvaro Alberto.
