The French Ministry of Defence’s armament procurement agency, the Direction Générale de l’Armement (DGA) has awarded the local shipbuilder KERSHIP (a joint venture of DCNS and Piriou) the construction of additional two 70m long BSAH (Bâtiment de Soutien et d’Assistance Hauturier (BSAH) multi-role surface vessels for the French Navy (Marine Nationale). France has ordered four units comprising Loire, Rhône, Seine et Garonne ships. They will operate from the naval bases of Best and Toulon. First two units ordered in 2015 will be delivered in 2018, and the remaining two in 2019. The fleet will be able to deploy underwater unmanned vehicles.
