FNSS Savunma Sistemleri AŞ of Turkey and PT.Pindad of Indonesia have completed conceptual design of the MMWT (Modern Medium Weight Tank) tracked combat armoured vehicle joint project.
Turkey and Indonesia initiated the project to develop MMWT in 2014. The production of the first prototype has already started, the Turkish firm (jointly owned by NUROL Holding and BAE Systems) announced.
The vehicle includes new generation diesel engine, fully automatic electronic controlled transmission, 6-wheeled suspension system built on torsion bars with double pinned tracks, ballistic and mine protection kit, cooling pack with an intelligent software driven hydraulic fan for optimum torque extraction and fuel economy, two separate fuel tanks providing a minimum operating range of 450km, auxiliary power unit and advanced battery monitoring system.
The Series 3105 protected turret system from CMI Defence incorporates 105mm gun, 7.62mm coaxial machine gun, fire control system, smoke grenade launchers, electro-optical panoramic sight and communications, among other equipment.
MMWT was designed for a broad range of fire power, from close support of infantry to anti-armour roles.
