Romania could be on the verge to award a contract to procure and locally assemble several ARTEC GmbH GTK Boxer 8×8 armoured modular combat vehicles to progressively replace its fleet of locally produced TAB-77 8x8s. A potential order would be set up through the European military procurement organization OCCAR (Organisation Conjointe de Coopération en matière d’Armement). GTK Boxer combat vehicle is being delivered to the armies of Germany and the Netherlands. It has been also ordered by Lithuania via the OCCAR. The vehicle is being proposed to the United Kingdom (for MIV competition) and Australia (to project Land 400 Phase 2). ARTEC GmbH is a joint venture between Germany’s Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) and Rheinmetall Defence contractors.
The GTK Boxer 8×8 is unique in having interchangeable modules that allow the vehicle to switch from troop carrier to other missions. it can be equipped with remotely-controlled weapon station or crew-operated turret.
