Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) will upgrade the PzH 2000 self-propelled armoured howitzers fielded by the German Army with the WiSPR (Wideband Intercom & Secure Packet Radio) digital wideband intercommunication system from INTRACOM Defense Electronics (IDE).
WiSPR is a rugged digital software defined vehicular intercom system. It delivers clear, true noise-free voice intercommunications and data connectivity including IP (Internet Protocol). It includes ergonomically designed user terminals equipped with multi-lingual operational display and keyboard while its software defined approach allows interoperability with tactical radios.
The PzH 2000 artillery system is manufactured by KMW and Rheinmetall Defence. It is currently fielded by the armies of Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Greece, Lithuania, Qatar and Croatia. It combines a tracked armoured chassis with a protected turret armed with L52 155mm/52 gun.
The same communications system was selected for Germany’s MARS II (Mittleres Artillerie Raketen System) multiple launch rocket systems.
