The Royal Danish Army will commission its first 8×8 GDELS-Mowag Piranha 5 armoured vehicles in 2018. A total of 309 vehicles were ordered on 15 December 2015 from General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS) by the country’s armament procurement organization, the Forsvarsministeriets Materiel- og Indkøbsstyrelse (FMI).

Deliveries are scheduled to be complete by 2023.

The contract worth DKK4.57 million cover the supply of six wheeled variants comprising troop transport carriers, command posts, ambulances, engineer units, mortar carriers and repair vehicles. The deal also included training services and a multi-year sustainment contract for the through life support. The new fleet will gradually replace the M113 tracked armoured vehicles.
