The U.S. State Department has approved a possible foreign military sale to Peru for 178 reconditioned General Dynamics Land Systems Stryker 8×8 armored troop carriers.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) delivered the required certification notifying U.S. Congress of this possible sale on December 2.
The package worth and estimated amount of USD668 million also include 178 remote-controlled weapon stations; 178 12.7mm heavy machine guns; driver’s vision enhancers; global positioning systems; sets of special tools testing equipment; spare parts; tripods; smoke grenade launchers; VIC-3 intercom systems; operators and field level maintenance training services; publications; training manuals; and field support.
It is believed this potential acquisition by Peru integrates the Peruvian Army’s `Harpay Nina’ (firepower in native Quechua) programme. The project forms part of the army’s wider `Ugarte’ modernisation plan.
