The U.S. State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to New Zealand for up to four Boeing P-8A Poseidon maritime surveillance aircraft and associated support and equipment for an estimated cost of USD1.46 billion.

Each aircraft includes tactical open mission software; MX-20HD electro-optical and infrared system; AN/AAQ-2(V)1 acoustic system, AN/APY-10 radar, ALQ-240 electronic support measure system.

Also included in potential sale are eight multifunctional information distribution system joint tactical radio systems; five Guardian laser transmitter assemblies for the AN/AAQ-24(V)N system; five system processors for AN/AAQ-24(V)N; thirty AN/AAR-54 missile warning sensors for the AN/AAQ-24(V)N; ten LN-251 systems with embedded global positioning systems/inertial navigations systems.

The fleet is aimed at to gradually replace existing Lockheed Martin P-3K Orion maritime patrol aircraft.
