On 28 June 2017, ARTEC, a joint venture of Krauss-Maffei Wegmann and Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles l has been awarded a contract by the OCCAR to modernize 38 Boxer 8×8 multipurpose armored vehicles to Boxer A2 standard for the German Army, all of them configured for a command role.
The order will be complete in mid 2020.
Among other things, the vehicles will be retrofitted with advanced driver visualization technology; fire suppression system; automatic identification technology; FLW200 remote weapon station; common displays for the vehicle commander and section leader; transmission of the video signal from the driver visualization system to the commander’s station; alteration of the external storage capacity, antenna configuration and loading; DVI, LAN, Y adapter cables and a DC/DC transformer; and a voice over IP/ VoIP capability.
ARTEC also is upgrading 124 Boxer armoured personnel carriers, 72 protected field ambulances and twelve driver training vehicles to A2 status.
The upgrade of the chassis to Boxer A2 design status includes the “fit-for” driver visualization system installation kit, modification of the exhaust gas and cooling air flow, repositioning of the towing cable and the driver’s station, and covering of the rear spotlights, ABS function check and monitoring of the differential lock.
