The US State Department has approving a possible sale to Nigeria of twelve Embraer Defesa & Segurança A-29 Super Tucano light attack and advanced training aircraft and weapons, including all associated training, spare parts, aviation and ground support equipment, and hangar, facilities, and infrastructure required to support the program. The prime contractor is Sierra Nevada Corporation.
The estimated total case value of the supply through the US foreign military sale process is USD593 million. The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) delivered the required certification notifying US Congress of this possible sale on 2 August 2.
These aircraft will support Nigerian military operations against terrorist organizations Boko Haram and ISIS West Africa, and Nigerian efforts to counter illicit trafficking in Nigeria and the Gulf of Guinea.
