Portuguese Army BrigRR (Brigada de Reação Rápida) rapid reaction brigade has received several light weapons to equip the CTOE (Centro de Tropas de Operações Especiais) and the CTC (Centro de Tropas Comandos) special forces units.

In September, the CTOE has received undisclosed quantities of a new version of the Accuracy International Ltd AW precision rifle. The AW weapon is fitted with a Schmidt & Bender Gmbh & Co. KG scope.

Compared with the earlier AW 7.62mm rifle model received several years ago, the new configuration comprise a folding chassis, a butt spike and an improved forend mounting system.

The CTOE has also received Heckler & Koch GmbH G-36K and G-36C 5.56mm assault rifles, and Heckler & Koch GmbH MG 4 5.56mm light machine guns to replace the Indústrias Nacionais de Defesa EP (INDEP) HK 21 7.62mm light machine guns.

The CTC also called “Comandos” operates now three versions of the Heckler & Koch GmbH USP 9mm pistols (standard, short and with suppressor), MG4 machine guns and as well as Heckler & Koch GmbH UMP 9mm sub-machine guns equipped with a laser sight.
