On 19 November, the P360 NRP “Viana do Castelo” offshore patrol vessel of the Portuguese Navy has conducted the first firing session with its brand new MARLIN WS (Modular Advanced Remotely-controlled Lightweight Naval Weapon Station) remote weapon station.

Two weapon stations were acquired from Oto Melara with the aim to arm the two NPO (Navio Patrulha Oceânico) offshore patrol vessels of Viana do Castelo Class built by the Portuguese shipbuilder Estaleiros Navais de Viana do Castelo (ENVC). The second and last combat ship P361 NRP “Figueira da Foz” already armed with its MARLIN WS weapon system will be soon delivered.

MARLIN WS is armed with 30 mm ATK Mk 44 Bushmaster automatic cannon with dual feeding, which is coupled to a thermal imaging payload by Thales.
