The Portuguese Ministry of Defence has approved the acquisition of three civilian armoured vehicles. The fleet to be procured by the Armed Forces High Staff (Estado-Maior General das Forças Armadas-EMGFA) is to replace SUV type´s Chevrolet Suburban ballistic protected vehicles (procured to a UAE based dealer) in service in Afghanistan theater.

During 2011, the Portuguese Army has received several wheeled vehicles including Daimler AG Atego 816 cargo trucks, Volvo Buses AB/IRIZAR S. Coop. B12B bus, FIAT Ducato 120 Multijet cargo vehicles, Wolkswagen Crafter Tdi ambulances, Citroen Berlingo and Renault Kangoo light utility vehicles, DAF Trucks NV CF tractor trucks and Land Rover Defender 130 Td4 light mine protected vehicles configured for special operations.
